Who is a candidate for Thigh Lift?

People unsatisfied with the shape of their thighs, when exercising and diet are not enough. Thigh Lift is a procedure that reshapes the thighs, providing a firmer and youthful appearance for your legs. It works by reducing the excess skin and sometimes also fat of thighs and lower body.

A Thigh Lift may be an option for people who have too much loose skin around the thighs. However, it is important to be healthy and maintain a stable weight. Also, to ensure long-lasting results, the patient should maintain a healthy nutrition and exercising habits.

Sometimes, when patient’s skin is not firm enough, a combination of Liposuction and Thigh Lift may be the best option. Liposuction is best when skin of treated area has good elasticity. When elasticity is poor, it is better to combine Liposuction with a Thigh Lift.

Prior to surgery, it is important to be healthy and avoid taking medications that could increase bleeding, such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements. Also, the patient should not have medical conditions that could interfere in the surgery or healing process, preferably be a non-smoker and have realistic expectations about the procedure.  [ Top ]

Expected Results from Thigh Lift:

Thigh Lift results can be seen almost immediately. In some cases, the patient might experience light swelling and bruising. However, final results might be seen only several months after surgery.
Anesthesia:
For a Thigh Lift, it can be chosen between intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. In case of general Anesthesia, you will sleep through the entire operation. If the option is intravenous sedation, sedatives will be injected to help you relax. The best anesthesia method depends on your individual case and what your doctor is recommending. You will decide with him what is better for you.  [ Top ]

Thigh Lift Surgery:

There are two types of Thigh Lift: Medial Thigh Lift, to correct the inner thigh area and Outer Thigh Lift, which corrects outer and mid-thigh area.
The incision size and type depend on the area, degree of correction and surgeon. The most performed Thigh Lift technique consists on an incision which starts in the groin and goes downward around the back of the thigh.
Tissue of the area is then reshaped and tightened; also, skin is reduced and redraped over the thigh. After that, sutures are made on the incisions.
When performing a Medial Thigh Lift, some cases require only a minimal incision on the groin area. You surgeon will be able to explain to you which technique is more appropriate.
For an Outer Thigh Lift a longer incision that goes from the groin to the hip is necessary.
In most of cases, the incisions are made in strategic places where they can hardly be seen, even when wearing a swimsuit.  [ Top ]

Recovery from Thigh Lift:

After a Thigh Lift surgery, dressings or bandages are used to cover the incisions. Also, an elastic bandage or a compression garment might be used for some weeks in order to help to reduce swelling and ensuring best Thigh Lift results. In some cases, small tubes are placed in order to drain the excess of fluid or blood.  [ Top ]
